   Date:2012-01-10

Pegatron Technology has reportedly already landed a small volume of orders for the upcoming "iPad 3" (generally called by supply chain players), which is set to launch in March, while the company is expected to see a significant increase in its orders for Apple's "iPad 4," which is scheduled to launch in October, with an initial volume of about 7-10 million units, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. Pegatron did not comment on the report at the time of publication.

The sources pointed out that Apple will also start changing its outsourcing strategy and will have Pegatron primarily focus on production of the iPad series products with production of the iPhone series products as an auxiliary in 2013, while the strategy for Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) is vice versa.

The sources noted that Apple's new strategy is meant to decrease risk and increase the quality of its products and the company has already visited Pegatron's plants in China several times recently to ensure the smoothness of the shipment process.

In addition to Apple, Pegatron's major clients in 2012 include Asustek Computer, Toshiba, Acer and Fujitsu, while the company has also recently landed ultrabook orders from Lenovo. Pegatron is also aggressive striving for ultrabook orders from Acer and notebook orders from Sony.

Pegatron shipped about 15.45-15.7 million notebooks in 2011 and is expected to ship 19-20 million units in 2012. Although Asustek has been shifting out its orders from Pegatron, Asustek will still place orders for about 10 million notebooks to Pegatron in 2012.

For the game console business, Pegatron is also said to continue producing Sony's next-generation Playstation 4 system.

As for the tablet PC business, Pegatron currently has orders from Asustek for its Eee Pad Transformer and Transformer Prime with overall shipment volumes to reach six million units in 2012.

Pegatron has announced consolidated revenues of NT$40.87 billion (US$1.35 billion) for December of 2011, down 17.8% on month, but up 31% on year, with consolidated revenues for 2011 reached NT$485.16 billion, up 14.2% on year.
