VIA, SiS achieve results from non-PC industry

Taiwan-base chipset makers VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS), although already phasing out of the PC chipset market, have both entered different markets and achieved results in those industries.

SiS' SiS92010S touchscreen control chip has recently received orders from Lenovo for its 10-inch Android 4.0 LePad S2-10 tablet PC, while SiS has also partnered with Philips to develop a smart remote home appliance system with its SiS9521 multimedia 3D TV set-top box (STB) chip.

In December 2011, SiS announced revenues of NT$15.38 million (US$513,848), up 32.47% on month, but down 88.71% on year, with total revenues for 2011 only reaching NT$1.4 billion, down 46.91% on year.

On the other hand, VIA's subsidiary Wondermedia is showcasing its Prizm WM8720 solution, which integrates Intel's WiDi technologies, at CES 2012.
