Notebooks becoming increasingly important for Samsung, says top executive

The strategic position of the notebook product line has become increasingly important to the overall product mix of Samsung Electronics, and the company's ultimate goal is to capture the top-ranking title in the segment, according to the company's executive vice president Gregory Lee.

Samsung has unveiled a series of new notebook lineups at CES 2012, with some new models to hit the market starting February, Lee said on the sidelines of the annual trade fair.

In addition to stressing product designs and high-end applications, Samsung will also optimize resources available within its own group, including flat panels, memory parts as well as its external supply chain in order to achieve its goal in the fastest manner, Lee commented.

Excluding notebooks, Samsung's sales of smart TVs and smartphones in the Asia-Pacific market have been strong, taking up a 30% share in the region's smartphone segment and a 40-50% share in the smart TV sector, Lee noted.
