Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 16) - SAIC held a press event for its new own made MG5, at which the manufacturer's Deputy General Manager Jiang Jun fielded questions from the media, wccdaily.com.cn reported today. Mr. Jiang appears very confident in the new car, boasting: "I believe we are pioneering [the compact segment]."
"Whether talking about [the MG5's] exterior, technology or maneuverability, we are extremely confident," Mr. Jiang boasted. In Mr. Jiang's words, the MG brand exudes "individuality, quality [and] innovation." When asked why SAIC decided to bring out another compact instead of a new SUV or other model, Liu Tao, director of product planning, answered that the small car market is China's most important, so it is natural for any manufacturer to try and increase its share in it.
Although SAIC's own brand sales in the past have not been especially good, Mr. Jiang confirmed that the manufacturer's sales target for the year is set at 200,000 vehicles, equivalent to a year-on-year increase of over 25 percent. The manufacturer hopes to sell over 16,000 vehicles this month. "At the moment, it appears that achieving this goal should not be hard at all," Mr. Jiang said.
