China's Telecom Operators Launch Smart SMS Service

   Date:2012-03-30

In a number of areas, including Beijing, Henan, and Shaanxi, China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) 10086 information platform and China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) 10010 information platform have introduced intelligent interaction functionality, allowing subscribers to send natural-language SMS messages to the numbers (such as "What is my account balance?") rather than requiring them to send shortcode commands.

The 10086 number also features an Easter egg: subscribers who send a message saying "I love you" to the number will receive a response saying "I love you too." 10086 also features a limited Q&A function offering subscribers information on configuring and using specific models of handsets.
