Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 11) - According to an official announcement made last week, Audi sold a total of 90,063 vehicles in the Chinese mainland (including Hong Kong) in the first three months of the year, Economic Observer News reported today. The sales figure represents year-on-year growth of nearly 40 percent for the German manufacturer in the country.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, member on the manufacturer's marketing and sales' board of management, confirmed that this year's first quarter Chinese sales figure was a new record for the manufacturer. Mr. Schwarzenbauer expects Audi to maintain double digit growth in China.
The Audi A4 (pictured above) was the main driver behind the manufacturer's sales, with a total of 24,536 units sold in the three month time span. The imported A5 (pictured below) also performed strongly, with a total of 20,870 units sold. Industry experts believe that the new A6L, which made its Chinese debut two weeks ago, will also begin making a contribution to the manufacturer's performance in the months to come.
Audi sold a total of 31,505 vehicles in March alone, 37 percent higher than the amount sold in March of 2011. The manufacturer's sales in January and February totaled 27,206 units and 31,352 units, respectively.
