China United Network Communications (600050,0762.HK) announced plans to launch several 3G smartphones costing about one thousand yuan each and which use the Android 2.3 operating system, later this year, reports 163.com
The smartphones will run on both the WCDMA and GSM networks, equipped with touchscreens of up to 3.5 or 4.0 inches, and support the HSUPA function with upload speeds up to 5.6Mbps.
According to the report, the introduction of 3G smartphones has been the key driver behind the growth in the mobile operator's 3G customer base.
Customers will be able to get the ZTE V788D or Coolpad7090 free of charge by choosing a 66 yuan per month package, while other phones could be purchased for free if they sign up for a plan costing 96 yuan per month.
