Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 16) - The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers has recently released passenger vehicle sales statistics for the first four months of the year. Looking at the charts for top ten selling models in each segment, which were listed in the Beijing Evening News today, there were no major surprises to be found. Although Chinese own brand manufacturers did poorly in the sedan charts, with only one entrant listed, their performances in the SUV and minivan charts were respectable.

The Kaiyue version of the Shanghai GM Buick Excelle was the best selling sedan, with a total of 99,600 vehicles sold from January to April. It was followed by Shanghai VW's Passat (90,100 units sold), Shanghai GM's Chevy New Sail (82,100 units), Shanghai VW's Lavida (78,000 units), Shanghai GM's Chevy Cruze (78,000 units), FAW-VW's Jetta (75,100 units), Shanghai VWs Bora (72,400 units), Beijing Hyundai's Verna Accent (67,300 units) and Shanghai VW's Santana (66,000 units). The FAW Tianjin Xiali N3 was the best selling own brand sedan, with a total of 65,800 units sold. Sales of the Lavida, Jetta, Santana and Xiali N3 all fell from last year, while the Passat and Verna Accent experienced exceptionally rapid sales growth.

Own brands performed significantly better in the SUV and minivan rankings. Great Wall's Haval H series of SUVs (pictured above) was the best selling SUV, with a total of 64,500 units sold. It was followed by the Shanghai VW Tiguan (63,400 units sold), Dongfeng Honda CR-V (54,100 units), Dongfeng Nissan Qashqai (45,700 units), FAW Toyota RAV4 (39,000 units), Chery Tiggo (35,400 units), BYD S6 (31,800 units), FAW-VW Audi Q5 (28,300 units), Beijing Hyundai ix35 (26,300 units) and Guangqi Toyota Highlander (24,300 units). The Dongfeng Fengxing Joyear (pictured below) and Lingzhi headed up the minivan list, with a total of 24,600 and 22,600 vehicles having been sold, respectively. They were followed by the Shanghai GM Buick GL8 (20,900 units sold), Jianghuai Refine (18,100 units), FAW Jilin Xenia (14,500 units), Shanghai VW Touran (10,800 units), Dongfeng Motor Shuaike (10,500 units), Guangqi Honda Odyssey (8,300 units), Haima H2 (8,000 units) and Zhengzhou Nissan NV200 (5,800 units). Combined, the above SUVs and minivans made up 69.04 percent and 86.49 percent of all sales in their respective segments.
