The Electric Vehicle Power Battery Recycling Technology Policy (2015 Edition) has entered the stage of soliciting opinions on the way to be released.
The policy for the first time has define responsible body in recovery thus solving the bottleneck problem of battery recycling business, which possess a huge potential. Aimed at providing guidance to the relevant enterprises to carry out EV power battery production and recycling, the policy will form a new recycle system for the upstream and downstream firms cooperating in recycling batteries.
The recycling objects have been officially limited to certain batteries including lithium-ion batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries. Lead-acid battery is not included in the list.
Official data showed that New EV ownership in China had surpassed 120,000 vehicles by the end of 2014. The rapid growth of EV ownership indicates the considerable market in engine battery recycle.
The quantity of scrapped EV power battery in China will reach 120,000 to 170,000 tons by the year of 2020 according to the prediction of China Automotive Technology and Research Center.
For now, despite the huge potential in the market, the commercial value exploration is restrained as no party is defined by Chinese authorities to be the responsible body in recycling the power battery.
Thus the new policy defines the responsible body for it is the EV manufactures from home and abroad and imported dealerships as well. In this case, automakers have to put the policy into consideration before producing any EV or power battery as they are mainly responsible for recycling the battery which forms a system of check and recycle.
