Dongfeng Yangtse plans to build an assembly plant in Morocco to produce buses and electric vehicles, reports Ecofin Agency, a news service that covers African business news.
The assembly plant will cost $101 million (674 million yuan), according to Ecofin, which cited company CEO Wu Tian Cai.
Construction will begin soon, and the factory will launch production next year. The plant will employ 2,000 workers who will assemble 200 to 300 electric buses each year. The company plans to market the buses in Europe and Africa.
Dongfeng Yangtse is a bus manufacturing company based in the central China city of Wuhan in Hubei province. Formerly known as the Wuhan Public Bus Factory, the company traces its roots back to 1929.
The company markets its buses under the Yangtse and Yangzijiang brands.
