During BYD’s 2015 General Meeting of stockholders hosted on June 6th, Wang Chuanfu, President at BYD Auto, said that, in second half of 2016, the shipments of alternative energy vehicles will increase rapidly, boosting the company’s overall sales to a next level. Besides, Wang also confirmed that the company will start a new business unit of light rail, which is expected to become BYD’s new growth point in five years.
Wang said, with the introduction of new policies in Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, the company’s shipments of alternative energy vehicles will increase rapidly, doubling the sales of green cars to 120,000 units, compared against 2015.
This year, BYD will continue to cooperate with IT companies, including Samsung and Huawei, on IT manufacturing, and develop lightweight technologies, especially for alternative energy vehicles considering their relatively heavy batteries and promising future.
Wang also said the intelligent driving system is the next big thing in auto industry and driverless vehicles are of top importance, but the company will only engage itself in the development of driverless cars accordingly.
To be noted, Wang also introduced the company’s new plan on straddle-type light rail vehicles, mainly aiming at second and third-tier cities in China, which have the advantages including reduced occupied area, low cost and short construction period.
