CHINA Mobile has accelerated the promotion of its 3G products, with the emphasis on multiple access for users.

The nation's telecommunications industry is in the process of a major revamp, with China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom all in line for 3G, or third-generation, licenses. China Mobile will recruit an additional 60,000 beta users for a trial period using its TD-SCDMA (time division-synchronous code division multiple access) technology.

The recruitment initiative began last Thursday and will continue until July 31, China Mobile said on its Website.

People can apply for the trial through the Website and chosen users will receive a free TD-SCDMA phone and communications fee subsidiary valued at 800 yuan (US$115.55) a month.

China Mobile will then collect and analyze feedback from users.

"The campaign will strengthen the TD-SCDMA user base," its Website said.

China Mobile will provide subsidiaries ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 yuan for TD-SCDMA phone buyers. It is also expected to introduce more TD-SCDMA models, the limited variety of which has been a bone of contention.

The 3G networks will provide users with high speed data transfer, which will allow subscribers to download films and conduct video conferences on their mobiles.
