Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on July 1 announced that its Telecommunication Laboratories and Ericsson have cooperated to finish testing of LTE base stations and terminal devices produced by Taiwan-based makers and thereby will cooperate to offer a LTE testing platform for Taiwan-made LTE hardware products targeted for export.

The testing was under the 700MHz frequency band, while tested terminal devices included smartphones produced by HTC and indoor CPE by Zyxel Communications, CHT indicated.

More than 80 mobile telecom carriers in 33 countries are promoting or plan to promote LTE around the world, according to Ericsson Taiwan general manager Philip Tseng. Among them, six or seven have provided LTE services and the number will increase to more than 22 at the end of 2010, and further to 45 in 2011, Tseng pointed out.
