Huawei Technologies, one of China's largest network equipment vendors, announced that it has won the lion's share of a contract worth US$100 million to become the leading CDMA provider for Nigeria's Multi-links.
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. said it has won 70 percent of the contract with Multi-links, the Nigerian private telephone operator which was awarded unified licenses to operate CDMA nationally in May 2006 by Nigeria's telecoms regulator.
Canada's Nortel Networks Corp., one of the world's largest telecom equipment suppler won the remaining share of the Multi-links contract.
Multi-links chose Huawei to install a CDMA 2000 1X network in several core cities such as Lagos, the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, PHC, Kamo, Ibandam, and Kaduna to further enlarge Multi-links' scale of net.
A.V. RAO, Chief Technology Officer of Multi-links, said that "Huawei's leading technologies and professional solutions will help our customers enjoy more diversified services, and reduce the long-term operational cost to maximize the interest and improve the Multi-links' competitive position in the marketplace."
Huawei is one of China's largest private-owned exporters of hi-tech products, and has developed strategic cooperation partners with many world-renowned telecom companies such as Telefonica and Vodafone.
