August 31 -- China Telecommunications Corporation (RCode:0728.HK:) announced today that it will launch cloud computing products starting next year, becoming China’s first operator to provide such services, reports 163.com.
China Telecom’s backbone network bandwidth is 22 terabytes, and its international bandwidth is 760 gigabytes, which form a good basis for developing a cloud computing business, said China Telecom deputy general manager Yang Jie.
China Telecom established a cloud computing group in 2009 and has offered cloud computing services to many clients since. It also built a cloud computing data center to provide nationwide service. The data center will be able to support millions of web hosts by the end of 2015.
China Telecom will start cloud hosting and cloud storage services in 2012. It will provide 20,000 web hosts and two 107-gigabyte storage spaces, which can be upgraded on clients’ demand.
In addition, China Telecom is researching and developing cloud application platform and it will offer more cloud computing services by the end of 2015, such as cloud carrying, mobile could appliances, cloud security and cloud broadband products.
