Viewing that mobile telecom carriers have been expanding their Wi-Fi network hot spots to offload increasing traffic on their 3G networks, Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) is drawing up a pricing plan to charge them for using state-own frequency bands for Wi-Fi operation.
The carriers that are expanding Wi-Fi hot spot networks are Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone Telecommunications and Taiwan Mobile. NCC said it is collecting information about their deployment of Wi-Fi networks as a basis of the pricing plan, which is expected to be announced by the end of 2011.
