Vibo Telecom, one of the five 3G mobile telecom carriers in Taiwan, has set a goal of more than 300,000 subscribers using smartphones in 2012, according to company CEO George Chou.
In line with the goal, Vibo plans to procure about 400,000 handsets in 2012, and at least 70% of which will be smartphones, Chou pointed out.
Currently, 14% of Vibo's subscribers have applied for use of mobile Internet-access services, Chou noted. Vibo aims to hike the proportion to 30% in 2012 through promotion of smartphones. In addition, Vibo is planning establishment of its online store of mobile value-added applications and will open the store in the first quarter of 2012.
Vibo will also expand its retail network to 100 self-operated stores and 350 franchised ones around Taiwan in early 2012, Chou indicated.
For establishment of a Wi-Fi network, it is too late for Vibo to begin deployment of own Wi-Fi hot spots and alternatively, Vibo will cooperate with Q-ware Communications to provide Wi-Fi service for its subscribers, Chou pointed out.
