An industry source revealed today that China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) terminals subsidiary, China Mobile Terminal, held an internal meeting the previous week at which it set a goal of selling 70 mln to 80 mln TD-SCDMA terminals for the year. The operator shipped 5.69 mln TD-SCDMA handsets in Q1 2012, an 86.4% QoQ increase, while China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) shipped 8.83 mln WCDMA handsets, a 52.5% increase, and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) shipped 5.83 mln CDMA2000 EV-DO handsets, a 43.6% increase. From January to July 2011, China Mobile sold a total of 15.24 mln TD-SCDMA terminals nationwide, an average of 2 mln per month. The operator predicts average monthly sales of 5 mln or more TD-SCDMA terminals this year.
