Inventec Appliances to ship 15 million handsets in 2007

   Date:2007/01/23

Inventec Appliances expects its shipments of handsets to total 15 million units in 2007, as compared with the 9.5 million units it shipped in 2006, according to company vice president for finance, Ivan Tseng.

The 2007 projected shipments will include eight million own-brand PHS (personal handy-phone system) phones, two million own-brand GSM handsets and five million OEM units, Tseng said.

The share of Inventec's own-brand PHS phones in the China market topped 30% in December last year, which was almost at the same level as the top vendor UTStarcom, Tseng noted.

The company is expected to expand its cooperation with Palm, which will result in an increase of OEM orders for smartphones this year, according to market sources, who also indicated that TomTom will also switch back part of its orders for GPS devices from Quanta Computer to Inventec.

However, contract orders from Apple are likely to decline in 2007, with revenues of related Apple products to account for over 50% of its total revenues, down from over 60% in 2006, Tseng predicted.

For 2007, Tseng expects the company's overall revenues to increase 10-20% from 2006's NT$104.97 billion (US$3.2 billion), which were down 14.3% from a year earlier.
