NOKIA will launch two high-end phones equipped with rich multimedia functions, including the ultraslim N76, next month in China as competition in the cell phone market heats up.
The world's No. 1 phone maker expects brisk sales of the multimedia N-series models in China as they offer good color screen, 2-megapixel or above camera, various data services - like Google and Flickr - and music playing functions.
Nokia will launch the N76 and N95, a model with 5-megapixel camera, next month but it declined to provide prices.
"People like handheld computers and sales of the series' best-seller N73 are higher than the combined sales of the top 10 digital cameras in China in the past months," Mike Li, Nokia China's multimedia business group director, said.
The high-end phones, which sell for more than US$350, help Nokia to drive up the company's profitability.
Motorola launched its slim fashionable "Motokrzr" series after the successful V3s while Sony Ericsson has promoted its range of Walkman phones.
