There were 480.65 million subscribers of mobile communication services in China as of the end of March 2007, growing by 1.42% on month and by 17.32% on year, according to statistics published recently by China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) on its Chinese-language web site.
The number of subscribers at the end of March represented 35.3% of China's population.
Also at the end of the first quarter of 2007, there were there 371.02 million subscribers of fixed telecommunication networks in China.
In March of this year, mobile phone subscribers in China sent 48.52 billion short messages, averaging 3.28 short messages per phone number a day.
