   Date:2007/05/14

NOKIA Corp said yesterday it had signed a US$2.5 billion contract to supply China Postel with mobile phones.

The world's largest handset maker said the deal also includes developing networks and other forms of cooperation. Finland-based Nokia has provided China Postel Mobile Communication Equipment Co with more than 37 million mobile phones since cooperation began in 1998. China Postel, with a 30-percent market share, is the country's largest mobile distributor. Nokia, based in Espoo near the Finnish capital, has operations in 130 countries and employs 68,000 people. During the first quarter, it sold 16 million mobile phones in China - a 34 percent rise on the same period in 2006, Nokia said.
