China GrenTech Corp Ltd said second-quarter net profit fell nearly 60 pct year-on-year to 2.1 mln usd from 3.1 mln usd last year due to higher research and development (R&D) expenses.

GrenTech, a wireless coverage products and services provider as well as radio frequency (RF) developer, saw second-quarter revenue rise 12.8 pct year-on-year to 26.7 mln usd.

R&D expenses and general and administrative costs over the period increased 72.5 pct and 42.7 pct, respectively, year-on-year due to continued investment in base station RF business.

Earnings per share (EPS) for the period stood at 0.08 usd, with no comparative figure given.
