Accton Technology and its subsidiaries, including Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB) and brand-product unit Edge-Core, have jointly won a bid to set up a mobile WiMAX network for the Taiwan government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), according an Accton company release.
The mobile WiMAX network will utilize 802.16e WiMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products developed by AWB, WiMAX macro base stations from Alvarion, and Internet security solutions from Cisco Systems, said Accton.
Accton began building the WiMAX network at the end of August and the project is scheduled for completion by mid-October this year, Accton noted.
The current WiMAX network supports the 802.16e Wave 1 standard but could be upgraded to support 802.16e Wave 2 through a software update when the technology becomes mature, Accton stated.
