CHINA is significantly important to Quebec in Canada amid current economic weakness in the United States and other developed countries, the premier of Quebec declared in Shanghai yesterday.
Jean Charest is leading a business delegation comprising more than 70 representatives from key sectors of Quebec's economy to Shanghai. An agreement will be signed with the local government today to expand partnership in technology, ocean research, health research and education exchange.
"Canada has much to offer, and China needs to invest abroad," said Charest, stressing China needs to bring its economy to a new level while Canada has a wealth of natural resources and advanced technology.
With an area of 1.2 million square kilometers or twice the size of France, Quebec has huge potential in mining and hydroelectric power. It is home to massive forests and wildlife resources, and has one of the world's largest freshwater reserves.
