HSBC global research has announced that David May has relocated to Hong Kong to take on the role of head of equity research, Asia-Pacific, and is responsible for developing and expanding the equity research franchise in Asia.

Chris Georgs, who has led the Asia-Pacific equity research team for the last five years, has been appointed global head of equity research. In this newly created role, he leads the equity research team globally and is pivotal in helping to standardize and maximize the contribution of HSBC’s global equity research proposition. He has specific regional responsibility for equity research in Europe and CEEMEA. He is now based in London and reports to Stuart Parkinson, CEO of global research.

In Hong Kong, there have been three new joiners to the team. Janice Tan joined as regional head of consumer and  retail equity research, Asia-Pacific, and is responsible for developing and enhancing research products in the consumer and retail sector across Asia Pacific.

Before joining HSBC, she was the head of equity research/portfolio manager in market, consumer, healthcare and small caps at China Life Franklin Templeton Asset Management. Tan has over 15 years of experience in leading financial institutions including CLSA and BNP Paribas Group across different sectors, including consumer. She reports to both May and Erwan Rambourg, head of consumer and retail, global research.

Anderson Chow joined as regional head of infrastructure research, Asia-Pacific and head of industrials Hong Kong and China research, where he develops research products and manages analysts in the infrastructure and industrials sectors. Previously, he was the head of infrastructure and transport research, Asia at Macquarie Capital Securities, where he was highly ranked in a number of key industry polls.

Colin Davis joined as head of research marketing, Asia-Pacific. He acts as a primary liaison between global research and global banking and markets to make internal stakeholders aware of research’s output and views across asset classes. He joined HSBC from Mirae Asset Global Investments where he was the head of Asia-Pacific research. He brings with him over 10 years of experience from leading global financial institutions including JP Morgan and ABN Amro.

Herald van der Linde, who has overseen the build up of the consumer team in Asia for the past two years, has become head of equity strategy, Asia ex-Japan. He retains his responsibilities as deputy head of equity research, Asia-Pacific. In this new capacity, he will work closely with Garry Evans, global head of equity strategy, and reports to May in Hong Kong.

Erwan Rambourg has been appointed head of consumer and retail, global research and has relocated to Hong Kong as the global consumer and retail research team builds on its existing sector coverage. With most companies listed in Europe but investment cases increasingly relying on Asia, having a team located in both the Western world and Asia brings incremental value to investors.
