Intel reportedly plans to rename the brand names of CPUs under its Cedar Trail platform in 2012 as demand for netbooks and nettops built with its Atom-branded processors has dropped significantly due to the poor brand image of Atom CPUs, according to industry sources.
The rebranding will cover its N/D/Z/E lineups of Atom CPUs for netbooks, nettops, handheld devices, consumer electronics products and embedded devices, the sources noted.
Based on Intel's latest roadmap, Cedar Trail CPUs, including Atom N2800 and N2700 for netbooks and Atom D2700 and D2500 for nettops, will be launched in November 2011. Intel also plans to release Medfield CPUs for Android tablet PCs and smartphones in the first half of 2012.
