Macronix International and Winbond Electronics, two Taiwan-based makers of NOR flash products, had October revenues increasing by 42.15% and decreasing by 10.68%, respectively, on month, according to the company.
Macronix's revenue growth in October was mainly due to booming shipments of ROM to Nintendo. Macronix foresees gross margins of 31-33% and capacity utilization of over 85% for the fourth quarter of 2011 and expects fourth-quarter revenues to grow by 20% sequentially to NT$7.8-8.0 billion (US$260-267 million).
Winbond expects continued growth in its shipments of NOR flash in the fourth quarter due to growing demand for serial flash used in handsets, but indicated that average selling prices may fall. Winbond plans to upgrade process of NOR flash to 58nm technology by the end of 2011 and start production of specialty DRAM base on in-house-developed 46nm process in the first quarter of 2012.
