Facing the flood that is impacting their production lines in Thailand, several digital still camera (DSC) brand vendors such as Nikon and Sony are likely to shift back the production to their plants in Japan and Taiwan players are unlikely to benefit from shifted orders.
Nikon's plants in Rojana industrial park in Thailand are mainly in charge of assembling DSLR cameras, while Sony's plants in the Ban Wa industrial area of Thailand are handling manufacturing of mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (MILC).
Since Nikon and Sony only outsourced to Taiwan-based ODMs its consumer DSCs, which is completely different than DSLR camera or MILC, while the upstream component suppliers in China do not have any cooperation with component players in Thailand; therefore, Taiwan-based players will not be benefited from shifted orders in the fourth quarter of 2011.
