The contest features two award categories: the UI award for user interface design and the IMEA award for mobile entertainment applications.

Dreamboo, designed by Jiang Xiangyu from Uxtime Studio, was awarded the UI individual golden prize and Web QQ 3.0 air, developed by Tencent, won the UI corporate golden prize.

A further 32 products also received IMEA awards.

The contest, which kicked off in April, was co-hosted by the Internet Society of China, the Taipei Computer Association and Chinataiwan.org. A total of 601 designs and products were entered into the contest in the following five months, and 150 made the cut for August’s final stage.

More than 80 percent of contest entrants from the mainland entered the user interface software category, with Taiwan entrants focusing on online games and visual design. "We noticed the different emphases on technical applications across the Strait and there’s a great complementary space for mainland and Taiwan in terms of mobile internet cooperation," said Charles Y. P. Huang, Deputy Secretary General of the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) at the awards ceremony of the Third Cross-Strait Internet Development Forum in Beijing.

He added: "We should encourage more companies to invest in the research and development of digital applications."

CIE is the most important cross-Strait Internet technical design contest. The contest provides a communication platform for designers and facilitates cooperation between Internet companies on issues related to mobile technical applications.
