On the Chaina’ 2011 Asian Supply Chain Conference held in Shanghai recently, Global Supply Chain Council awarded Tesco with “Green Supply Chain Award” for its self-owned green distribution center in Jiashan, Zhejiang Province. The award recognized the Jiashan distribution center for its efforts in improving industry’s energy-saving standards, its pioneering work in environment protection and its green concept in operation.
The judging panel is deeply impressed by Tesco’s leadership in environment protection activities and its long-term commitment in this field. The Jiashan distribution center has even made “further breakthrough” and voluntarily improved its standards in protecting environment.
As one of the three giant retailers in the world, Tesco has made continued exploration and development in green field. It made an ambitious energy-saving plan in 2009, saying that it aims to become the first company with zero carbon emission in 2050. The Green Distribution Center in Jiashan, Zhejiang, opened in this July, is an important step further to its target: it saves 45% of energy and 40% of water and reduces 35% of carbon emission compared with traditional warehouses in China.
