The world convenience store giant 7-Eleven is planning to start franchise business in China.
With rumors that the retailer will start franchise stores in Beijing and Tianjin, representative from 7-Eleven’s public relations in Shanghai said that it has started its internal test of franchise business model and if the result is as expected, the convenience store operator will offer franchise to outside partners.
The start of franchise model means that 7-Eleven will make its expansion in China to full play, a move that is likely to put more pressure on local convenience store brands.
“Internal test has begun and we will decide whether to launch franchise in Shanghai according to the test results,” said the representative.
“7-Eleven is bound to start franchise in China. It’s just a matter of time. Conducting the test has already shown its determination,” said an industry insider.
