China's technology giant Huawei is likely to provide technology to Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT). The company will partner with Ahmedabad-based Sai Infosystem (SIS) to offer a host of information and communications technology solutions to GIFT.

Eric Yu, president, enterprise business, Huawei India, said, "As tech providers, we will be expected to provide networking solutions, setting up of data centres and surveillance for the GIFT project."

While Huawei will be the original equipment manufacturer ( OEM) for GIFT, SIS will handle the execution. "SIS will be the system integrator for the GIFT project and we will partner with Huawei. SIS is the lead partner along with 10 bidders for the project," said Sunil Kakkad, chairman and managing director of SIS.

SIS and Huawei have been partners for the last five years on telecom projects. The GIFT project is expected to take off in the next financial year.

Huawei is also considering a proposal from the state government to set up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat after chief minister Narendra Modi visited Huawei's research and development centre in Shenzen. "We are considering possibilities beneficial to both parties. The investment in Gujarat could be in the form of a facility, a research and development centre or an indirect investment through a partner. We can talk about the timeline of implementing the project by next quarter," Yu said.

Yu added that he sees several projects being implemented by Huawei in Gujarat over the next two quarters.

Huawei is also discussing possibilities of implementing e-education and a 'safe city project' in Gujarat. The company is in talks for being the material supplier for traffic control system in major cities of Gujarat.
