Taiwan-based vendor Asustek Computer holds many patents concerning 3G communications and therefore does not worry about patent infringement charges, according to company chairman Jonney Shih at his receiving the 2011 Pan Wen Yuan Prize.
Asustek has scored points in tapping emerging markets, and this is favorable for Asustek's business operation from in view of uncertainty in the US and Europe markets, Shih pointed out. Sales of Zenbook, an Ultrabook PC model, have so far met original expectations, and is expected to attain the target of 300,000 units by the end of 2011, Asustek indicated.
As Asustek shipped 2.4 million notebook PCs to bring in consolidated revenues of NT$40.7 billion (US$1.35 billion) in November, market analysts expects the company to reach consolidated revenues of NT$95-100 billion for the fourth quarter of 2011 and net earnings per share of NT$21 for 2011. Due to off-season effects and the negative impact of the financial crisis in Europe and short supply of hard disk drives, Asustek's consolidated revenues for the first quarter of 2012 will drop on quarter by 15-20%, the analysts pointed out.
