BAIDU, China's largest search engine operator, has teamed up with Dell Inc which will use the Baidu Yi software platform on its new computer model as the Chinese firm joined other Internet companies such as Alibaba and Tencent to tap the growth potential in the mobile Internet sector.

Baidu Yi, launched in September this year, is a variation of Google's Android system and will be pre-installed in the new Dell model called Streak Pro D43 to allow software developers to integrate Baidu's features. The Streak Pro will sell for around 3,000 yuan (US$473).

"Baidu Yi is an important component of Baidu's cloud computing strategy and we will work with partners to provide users with more mobile devices (installed) with Baidu Yi platform," said Baidu's vice president Wang Jin.

"Baidu's cloud computing technology will allow users to enjoy better localized mobile Internet experience," he added.

Baidu also plans to optimize its cloud computing features to provide better personal data storage, search and communication services.
