Taiwan-based handset component makers expect orders from LG Electronics (LGE) in 2012 to grow at a pace lower than the projected growth rates for orders from Nokia and Motorola, according to industry sources.

Orders placed by LGE with the local component makers have been relatively lower in 2011 as the vendor is probably on the course of revamping its handset development strategy, the source noted.

Despite the launch of its flagship Optimus lineups in 2011, the company saw its market share drop to 5.4% as of the third quarter of 2011 from 8.3% of a year earlier.

To improve its market share, LGE is expected to focus on the development of LTE-enabled smartphones in 2012 following the launch of Optimus LTE with IPS True HD displays in October 2011, the sources asserted.
