Lite-On to increase monthly shipments of LED light sources

Lite-On Technology indicated its global market share of server power supplies has surpassed 20%. Lite-On expects the market share to grow to 35%. The firm also indicated the LED light source shipments will likely reach 20 million units per month in 2012.

Power supply currently accounts for 30-40% of total revenues, according to Lite-On. In 2010, Lite-On's power supply accounts for 15-16% of global market share, in first half of 2011, the market share has increased to 20%. Lite-On hopes to achieve 35% of market share in 2012.

Currently, US-based Emerson has the largest market share in the global server power supply market, Delta ranks second while Lite-On ranks third. The growth of the market has been strong, according to Lite-On.

KC Terng, CEO of Lite-On, indicated optimism toward the growth of LED lighting market. Lite-On has a joint venture in China with LED chipmaker Epistar in effort to capture more business opportunities of LED lightings. The plant has begun shipments.

Terng believes that 2011 was the worst year for the LED industry. Lite-On indicated 2011 revenues of the LED business unit is likely to reach around NT$14 billion (US$461 million), flat comparied to 2010. The firm expects revenues from LED products to show double digit growth in 2012.
