Nanya welcomes cooperation with Elpida

Nanya Technology will not exclude the possibility of discussing with Japan's Elpida Memory and its existing partner Micron Technology about a potential tie-up, according to company chairman CJ Wu.

Nanya is happy to see this happen if such direction does benefit the company and industry development, said Wu, in response to recent speculation that Elpida is exploring various options including building some form of partnership with Micron and Nanya for restructuring its business.

Nanya previously had dismissed a Nikkei report claiming that the company would be engaged in talks with Elpida on a potential partnership. Nanya said it was not aware of such talks.

Elpida is seeking an extension on its public fund repayment, and is also struggling to repay loans worth about JPY110 billion that are due soon from 14 private banks. The memory chipmaker has been requested by its creditor banks to submit a restructure plan by the end of April.
