CHINA has set the target to create three to five large competitive domestic auto groups by 2015 and have the top 10 Chinese companies to generate 90 percent of domestic sales by then, according to the latest industry guideline released by the State Council at the end of last year. The new blueprint, targeting 2011 to 2015, is part of the government efforts to encourage the development of Chinese brand autos and industrial restructuring. Also by 2015, China wants the fuel consumption of new passenger cars to be lowered to 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers and have accumulated sales of new energy vehicles to 500,000 units.
