Great Wall's sales grow over 10% in Q1

   Date:2012-04-20

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 20) - According to the most recent statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Great Wall sold a total of 130,000 vehicles in the first quarter of the year, China Times reported today. The sales result represents year-on-year growth of 10.9 percent for Great Wall, a figure far above the industry average.

Great Wall's performance in March, in particular, was very strong. The manufacturer managed to sell a total of 50,800 vehicles in that month alone, growing 31.8 percent from last March. If the manufacturer continues to maintain such strong growth, it shouldn't be hard for it to meet its 600,000 vehicle sales target for this year.

The first quarter has been tough for domestic manufacturers, with CAAM statistics showing that Chinese automobile production and sales figures have both fallen, totaling 4.78 million and 4.79 million units, respectively. Domestic own brand vehicle sales totaled 1.62 million units, 8.1 percent less than last year's result. Increasing pressure from joint ventures and the rising price of fuel were among the factors cited as contributing to domestic brands' poor performance.
