Reducing waste at source and promoting recovery are the first priorities in the waste management strategy, Hong Kong's Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau said on Wednesday, adding a three-pronged waste- management strategy will be adopted.
Speaking at the city's Legislative Council on Wednesday, Yau told lawmakers that the components of the strategy are correlated, intertwined and mutually indispensable in seeking to solve Hong Kong's waste-management problem.
Yau said the Hong Kong government aims to raise the recovery rate of waste to 55 percent by 2015 through stepping up publicity and promotional efforts on waste reduction and recycling.
