Auto parts manufacturers saw a 93 percent jump in finished products in Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone (CEDZ) in 2013. The exponential increase accounts for about 90 percent of Sichuan province's total auto parts production.
With the finished auto production capacity of FAW-Volkswagen, Volvo, Geely and FAW-Toyota witnessing a rise, the finished auto production is expected to exceed 800,000 units in 2014, said an official at the auto industry department at the CEDZ.
"We expect the sales revenue of finished auto sector to surpass 100 billion yuan ($16.46 billion) this year," said the official.
CEDZ plans to manufacture one million finished autos annually by 2016 and 1.8 million by 2020.
The CEDZ, 13.6 kilometer east of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, is now an important production base for FAW-Volkswagen, FAW Toyota, Volvo and Geely. It has 17 enterprises that make finished autos and about 290 related enterprises.
Chengdu is the nation's third-largest automobile market and the biggest in the western region.
