China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine made a total of 14 recall announcement in November this year. The number of recalled vehicles amounted to 84,980 units, in which 11 automotive brands were involved, including Mercedes-Benz, Mustang, Maserati, Land Rover, Porsche, Fiat, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Dali school bus, Volvo FM trucks, and FY1EUS of Hino.

 

Based on the statistics, we can know, on the one hand, luxury brands took up the most part of recalled vehicles and the imported automobiles also accounted for a high proportion on the other hand.

 

What’s more, the General Administration made a warning announcement that some of imported Lexus were unsafe in November. Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. reported that some Lexus equipped with Pre-Collision Systems would mistake metal pavement seams for obstacles, giving the alarm or even triggering auxiliary braking or automatic braking. If the panic driver tries to brake under this circumstance, rear-end accident may happen, which is unsafe. According to statistics, the defective models involve ES350 of Lexus produced from June 22 of 2012 to May 19 of 2015, a total of 126 units.

 

In response to this emergency, the General Administration adopted three methods as the followings. First, the owners should send their cars to the franchisers to shut down Pre-Collision Systems for safety; the company should figure out the cause of defect as soon as possible and adopt temporary measures to protect the owners’ personal and property safety before recall; Last, Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine institutes at all levels need to supervise that dealer of imported Lexus in their own jurisdictions should cooperate with sole dealers to conscientiously fulfill responsibilities and obligations to inform cars owners and provide them with free maintenance. Besides, these institutes also need to do random check on imported Lexus in their own jurisdictions.
