Sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids jumped 107 percent year on year to nearly 44,000 vehicles in June as government subsidies continued to stimulate demand for green cars and light trucks.
During the month, EV sales surged 127 percent to approximately 34,000 while plug-in hybrid deliveries advanced 62 percent to roughly 10,000 vehicles, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said.
In the first half of the year, about 170,000 EVs and plug-in hybrids were sold nationwide, an increase of 127 percent from the same period last year. The number includes roughly 126,000 EVs and 44,000 plug-in hybrids.
Under current Chinese government policy, only domestically produced EVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles qualify for subsidies. Hybrid vehicles are not eligible.
To date, no automakers have fuel cell vehicles for sale or lease in China.
