Honeywell International Inc. says it is supplying turbochargers to two compact vehicles produced by General Motors' SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co. joint venture.
The vehicles, the Baojun 560 compact crossover and the 730 compact multipurpose vehicle, have 1.5-liter engines.
By allowing GM to use smaller engines, the turbochargers help reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent, says Honeywell.
On Monday, the turbocharged 1.5-liter vehicles went on sale in China. The Baojun 560's starting price is 81,800 yuan ($12,200) and the 730's is 73,800 yuan.
Honeywell estimates that 47 percent of passenger vehicles sold in China will be equipped with turbochargers by 2020, up from 28 percent in 2015.
