July 14 – Youngor Textile Industry City denied accusations published in an extensive Greenpeace research report that its supplier, Well Dyeing Factory Ltd., has discharged highly toxic chemicals into rivers and harmed nearby villages, reports the Beijing Morning Post, citing a company filing. The company claims that “the investigation results do not match with the reality.”

The source identified suppliers to over 14 apparel companies, including Nike, Lacoste and Calvin Klein, that reportedly discharged environmental endocrines and other toxins into waterways in the vicinity of Zhongshan city, Guangdong province.

Li Ning (2331.HK) claimed that its suppliers’ chemical discharge levels are in compliance with national standards. Company spokesman Zhang Xiaoyan confirmed that one of the two firms identified the research report was indeed a Li Ning supplier. Li Ning contacted the firm, which said that its discharge levels meet regulatory standards. Li Ning will not consider changing suppliers, Zhang said.

Younger Textile also claimed that its waste water processing is in compliance with international standards and has sent samples to SGS, a Geneva-based provider of environmental testing services. SGS reported that no toxins were found in the samples it received.
