China-based BOE Technology has followed Samsung Electronics, LG Display and AU Optronics (AUO) to venture into the development of transparent displays and is currently showcasing related products at the ongoing FPD 2012 China trade fair being held in Shanghai.

Samsung displayed its 14-, 22- and 46-inch transparent displays at FPD China 2011 and also announced volume production of 22-inch transparent models in March of that year, pushing the transparent display devices into practical applications.

BOE is exhibiting 32- and 17-inch transparent displays at the trade fair. The 32-inch model utilizes its own ADS wide viewing angle technology that provides a viewing angle of up to 178 degrees vertically and horizontally, a 72% high color gamut and a high contrast of 1200:1, according to industry sources.

The 17-inch model has a remote-controlled switch that enables switching between transparent and normal display functions, the sources added.
