Chongqing Mobile recently began selling "Mi-Fi" personal 3G routers. Chongqing Mobile subscribers need only insert a 3G SIM card into the Mi-Fi terminals to set up their own wireless broadband networks supporting simultaneous connections by up to 5 devices. The routers include devices from Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Datang Telecom (600198.SH), and other brands. The ZTE A6, for instance, is roughly the size of a credit card and weighs only 80 grams with battery. The A6 offers up to four hours of continuous use or 100 hours of standby, and supports downstream speeds of up to 2.8 Mbps. Starting this week, Chongqing Mobile subscribers who sign up for RMB 300, RMB 500, and RMB 1000 3G data card plans will receive one free Mi-Fi router, a free data SIM, and an additional 144 GB of local 3G data.
