Toll 'well positioned to grow in Asia'

   Date:2006/12/31
The head of logistics company Toll Holdings Ltd has set his sights on Asia, particularly China, as a growth opportunity for the business.

Toll CEO Paul Little said "You've got a number of very, very healthy economies in Asia. The Chinese economy is growing at something like 10 per cent of GDP and that really should give us a marvellous opportunity to build our business, which already has quite significant operations.”

He said Toll was poised to succeed in Asia, where some other Australian companies like Mayne and TNT had failed.

"While certainly they went overseas and history would suggest they may have failed, in the longer term they certainly have created some strong assets in certain locations.

"But in so far as Toll is concerned we have acquired a very strong business in Asia with a marvellous footprint."

"There's no doubt the Semcorp business has given that right through Asia and the Patrick acquisition has given us that now in that we can now integrate the container stevedore operations here in Australia."
