China airlines places GEnx orders with GE Aviation

Two Chinese airlines have placed orders totaling more than $570 million for the GEnx jet engine being developed by GE Aviation.

Hainan Airlines, based in China's Hainan province, ordered more than $200 million in engines to power eight Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Delivery is expected to begin in 2008, GE Aviation said.

China Eastern Airlines, based in Shanghai, ordered $370 million in engines to power 15 Dreamliner aircraft, with delivery beginning in June 2008.

GE Aviation, based in Evendale, develops and manufactures jet engines for commercial and military aircraft. It is a unit of General Electric, headquartered in New York.
